DESCRIPTION: ...More thunderstorms through the week... .The next round of thunderstorms will spread out across southern Oregon and northern California this afternoon and evening. Storms will continue into the overnight hours and become more isolated in northern Lake and Klamath Counties with perhaps one or two west of the Cascades. Another round of thunderstorms will develop Thursday afternoon and evening. ...FIRE WEATHER WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING FOR ABUNDANT LIGHTNING ON DRY FUELS FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONES 280, 281, 284, AND 285... * IMPACTS...Abundant lightning on dry fuels resulting in the potential for numerous new fire starts. * AFFECTED AREA...In California, all of Fire weather zones 280, 281, 284 and 285. * TIMING...For the Red Flag Warning, from 2pm this afternoon to 11 pm this evening. For the Fire Weather Watch, from Thursday afternoon to Thursday evening. * THUNDERSTORMS...Scattered to widespread thunderstorms with abundant lightning are expected, with another day of scattered coverage possible on Thursday. Graupel is a form of precipitation that is created by atmospheric conditions
which cause supercooled water droplets to contact snow crystals and freeze to
their surface.
Sometimes known as soft hail or snow pellets, graupel is delicate and easily
destroyed by touch. Whereas hail usually falls during severe weather, graupel
doesn't require such conditions to form, and can form in mild precipitation
similar to situations which produce snowfall.

A hole punch cloud is an unusual occurrence when a disk-shaped
hole appears in a cirrostratus, cirrocumulus, or altocumulus cloud.
When part of the cloud forms ice crystals, water droplets in the surrounding area
of the cloud evaporate. The effect of this process produces a large elliptical
gap in the cloud. The hole punch cloud formation is rare, but it is not specific
to any geographic area.
Other names which have been used to describe this phenomena include fallstreak hole,
skypunch, and cloud hole.
